Because of social norms at Goshen, Kate had a difficult time accepting Nik's Southern, gentlemanly practices like the opening of car doors. She acclimated quickly.
About Us
Kate is the daughter of Shirley and Stuart Showalter and sister to Anthony Showalter. She grew up in Goshen, IN and attended Goshen College where she earned a bachelor's degree in art. Upon moving to Pittsburgh, Kate participated in the Pittsburgh Urban Life Service Experience (PULSE) program where she worked for a consignment store, Ambiance Boutique owned by Bethlehem Haven women's shelter. She now manages Ambiance Boutique's third location in Lawrenceville. She also enjoys designing and fabricating handbags from recycled leather materials, and she will complete her massage therapy training this Spring.
Nik is the son of Ila and Neal Stoltzfus and brother to Larisa Stoltzfus. He grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and attended Goshen College where he played soccer and graduated with a Business degree. Following a year spent teaching English in France, Nik moved to Pittsburgh in 2004 where he soon began Plumb Media, a web development and design company, with his close friend Matt Mullet. Plumb Media is now in its 5th year and continues to grow. Nik still enjoys playing soccer, music, and working as a volunteer handyman around his Stanton Heights home.
Kate and Nik met during their sophomore and senior years, respectively. They found a unique connection through many shared childhood experiences. French schooling, living abroad at an early age, academic households, balancing sportive, artistic, and musical interests, and a love of kitty cats, are just a few. They shared a Christmas in France in 2003 while Nik was abroad and have spent the years between 2005 and the present falling in love with Pittsburgh and each other.
